Bumps & Babes

Bumps & Babes is a bi-monthly support group for pregnant women as well as women with newborns and babies based in Shanghai that Shanghai Toy Club sponsors. We invite guest speakers covering a wide range of relevant topics for pregnant women and mothers and organize events that encourage all the participants to exchange stories and develop friendships. The majority of the proceeds collected at Bumps & Babes are donated to Baobei Foundation, among other child-focused charities in China.

About Bumps & Babes

Bumps & Babes was founded in 2006 by Mary Clarke, an Australian mother who realized there was an un-met need amongst expat women for information about pregnancy and baby care in Shanghai. The group was instantly received with great enthusiasm and has so far welcomed the participation of thousands of women of all nationalities. The group’s management was subsequently taken-over by Lisa Waltz, a Canadian mother and Shanghai resident who helped this group gain further exposure.

In June 2009, when Lisa announced her decision to step down from her role, Shanghai Toy Club decided to sponsor this important group by taking over its management. As expat mothers ourselves, we (i.e. the owners of Shanghai Toy Club) recognized the significance of this kind of support network and decided that our time would be well spent encouraging and growing the reach of this initiative that directly benefits our clients.
